Volunteer

Thanks for your interest in volunteering with the Wanderlust Festival.  We have filled all our volunteer positions for 2010.  If you'd like to receive updates on future volunteer opportunities, please email volunteer@wanderlustfestival.com. Please note: because we are busy preparing for this year's festival, we may not be able to respond to each request individually, but we'll be sure to add you to our volunteer list for future events!

The Details
What is Wanderlust?

Wanderlust runs from Thursday, July 29 to Sunday, August 1, 2010. We'll need volunteers starting Wednesday, July 28 and continuing through Monday, August 2.

What is the time commitment?

Each volunteer will be required to work three 5-hour shifts over the course of the festival. Additionally, we request that you spend at least 5 hours promoting the festival either through delivering flyers and posters or through posting to your own social media outlets, such as Facebook, Twitter, or personal blogs.

Can I choose which shifts I work?

We'll definitely give you the opportunity to provide us with your preferences for shift work. However, we can't guarantee that you'll get your first choice. We plan to have the shifts scheduled well enough in advance so that you can make arrangements to be available.

How are volunteers selected?

We will select volunteers based on a number of criteria, including availability, skills, interest, enthusiasm, and experience. Please fill out the attached form as completely and concisely as possible so that we are able to assign you to the positions we feel you are best suited for. We may also ask to have a quick phone conversation with you to determine the best fit.

How many volunteer positions are there?

We expect to take up to 200 volunteers. This is truly a volunteer-driven event. We'll keep the Volunteer page updated with current volunteer opportunities.

What kind of incentive is there for being a volunteer?

In addition to getting to see the workings of a premiere event, each volunteer will receive entrance into all music events as well as a one-day Pilgrim ticket that will gain you entry into yoga classes for that day. You'll have at least one day with no volunteer commitments so that you can take full advantage of this ticket. You'll also get a t-shirt and other great freebies provided by our sponsors!

What ARE THE JOBS I CAN CHOOSE FROM?

Artist / Yoga Teacher Relations.   You'll work to take care of our artists and teachers, from providing information to running errands to ensuring that backstage catering is complete and stocked.
Audio / Video.  You'll help out our technical crew, who will be responsible for ensuring proper sound and video in our music venues and yoga classrooms.
Customer Service.  You'll work in our help desk and interface with festival patrons who have questions or need help.  You may also assist our ticketing personnel.
Food / Catering.
You'll interface with our executive chef and our Artist Relations folks to ensure that the food experience is up to snuff, both for festival patrons and for crew, artists and teachers.
Greening / Environmentalism.  One of the most important jobs at the festival, you will help to make sure that Wanderlust lives up to its extensive environmental commitments.  This might involve providing information to patrons so they separate recyclables and compostables from trash, working at our "green info" booth, or generally helping to clean up and tidy the festival grounds.
Merchandise Sales.  Our merchandise team will need some help tracking and selling artist, yoga teacher and festival merchandise.
Music Production.  Help out the stage hands and crew as they build up and take down the main stage.
Vendor Relations.  Work with our vendor coordinator to make sure that the 60+ vendors at Wanderlust are happy and well taken care of.
Yoga Class Production.  Work with our yoga production coordinator to make sure that entry/exit to classes is orderly, the rooms are clean, altars are set up, and everyone has a great experience in each room.

Is there an application fee?

Yes, there is a $10 non-refundable application fee to submit and process your application. Additionally, we require that you keep a credit card number on file with us until the completion of the festival. If you neglect to fulfill your scheduled volunteer duties, then your card will be charged $200, which is the approximate cost of the music and yoga tickets provided to you. We know that emergencies do arise and will do our best to work with you if any arise. Please just be in contact with the volunteer coordinator so that we can make sure all our shifts are covered.
